Minivan prices start from $55 for the journey that takes 3-5h.
You can choose among four minivan companies: Super Shuttle Costa Rica, Easy Ride, Interbus and Costa 24/7. All of these operators receive good reviews, so you can just choose depending on your schedule and budget.
Due to the pickup and drop-off times, it may look like this journey takes longer than the bus. But in reality, it’s quicker to travel by minivan. You can also save on the possible taxi ride going to and from bus terminals.
Taking a direct bus is the cheapest way to travel from Manuel Antonio to San Jose, with fares starting at 5,600 CRC.
Tracopa operates 9 daily trips. These are available from 04:00 to 17:00 daily. Travel time is around 3h 30m - 5h 30m.
You can only buy your tickets at the bus station, so we recommend arriving there around 30 minutes prior to departure time for a better chance of getting a seat. Alternatively, you can drop by the terminal at least a day before to buy your ticket.
It's worth noting that buses are not as reliable as minivans. Bus travel in Costa Rica has its downsides — petty theft is one to watch out for. If you’re not careful, the money you save on bus tickets might be lost to pickpockets.
All buses stop at Tracopa Terminal San Jose in the city centre.
ABOUT YOUR DESTINATION
San Jose is a bustling urban landscape in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Being the capital city, it may not be as pretty as the beach and jungle destinations that the country is known for. But if you are stopping by anyway, might as well explore for a few hours or a day before moving on to your next stop.
You will find plenty of things to do in San Jose. Within the city, you can check out the colonial buildings turned museums at Barrio Amon, try out the famed restaurants at Barrio Escalante, or party the night away in El Pueblo. If you want to venture outside the city limits, the Poas Volcano and La Paz Waterfall Gardens are highly recommended!

Train via Surat Thani was our pick. More scenic than Chumphon route and the Lomprayah catamaran from Tapee Pier is very comfortable. Book the special express train for the quickest ride.
The overnight bus with Montanatip was okay but not great. The bus was older and the seats didn't recline much. Ferry portion was fine though. If you're on a tight budget it works.
Took the sleeper train to Chumphon — magical! Woke up to palm trees and transferred to the Lomprayah catamaran. Whole journey felt like an adventure.
Lomprayah bus+ferry combo from Khao San Road was seamless. Departed at 6am, arrived Koh Tao by 3pm. Well organized.
Flew to Koh Samui and took Lomprayah catamaran. More expensive but saved a full day. Worth it if your holiday is short.
