Travelling to Mexico City from Acapulco by bus is a good option, especially if you enjoy scenic views. Daytime buses are great for catching some amazing landscapes along the way — just sit on the side opposite the sun for the best experience.
There are multiple bus departures every day so you can be flexible with your schedule.
Step 1: City Centre to Acapulco Bus Terminal
Buses bound for Mexico City depart from Acapulco de Juarez Central Bus Station, which is close to the city centre and just a few blocks from the beach. Many accommodations are within walking distance from the bus terminal.
If yours isn’t, you can take a taxi. The rate will depend on the distance but starts from around $2.90 (50 MXN).
Step 2: Acapulco to Mexico City by Bus
Two bus companies operate on the Acapulco to Mexico City route: Estrella de Oro Pluss and its luxury sub-branch, Diamante.
Both bus lines have vehicles equipped with AC, reclining seats and separate toilets for men and women. If you are looking for extra perks, Diamante offers bed-type seats, cafeteria on board, snacks, charging ports and individual screens.
There are departures roughly every hour throughout the day. On average, the bus journey from Acapulco to Mexico City takes around 5-6h.

Step 3: Mexico City Bus Terminal to the City Centre
The bus will drop you off at the southern bus terminal, known as Terminal Taxqueña. It is located close to Coyoacan (a well-known tourist area), but about 12 km south of the city centre. From here, there are 2 ways you can get to the Centro: by Metro and by taxi/Uber.
The cheapest way is by Metro. To take this train, get out of the bus terminal and cross the street. You will find the station Taxqueña. Take Line #2 to the closest stations to the main square, which are Zocalo and Pino Suarez. The Metro journey takes around 30 minutes and a ticket costs $0.30 (5 MXN).
For a more direct route, you can take a taxi or Uber to the city centre from $8.90 (155 MXN).
Acapulco to Mexico City by Flight

Step 1: City Centre to Acapulco Airport
Acapulco International Airport is located about 25 km southeast of the city centre. We recommend taking a taxi to the airport — it’s the most convenient and cost-efficient option.
You can hail a taxi on the street or book one in advance through BookAway. They offer better cars with trusted drivers. Rates for a 3-seater car start from $14 (250 MXN).

Step 2: Acapulco to Mexico City
Flights from Acapulco to Mexico City are offered by Aeromar, Volaris and AeroMexico. Aeromar offers more departures and usually has the most affordable rates.
Combining the airlines, there are roughly 10 departures a day between 07:00 and 19:25. The flight time is around 1h15m.
Step 3: Mexico City Airport to the City Centre
Flights from Acapulco arrive at Benito Juarez Airport (MEX), about 10 km east of Mexico City. From here, you have two main options to reach your hotel: Metrobus or a private transfer.
We recommend taking the Metrobus because it’s both cheap and convenient. Take Line #4 and you can get straight to the city centre in around 45 minutes. If you’re aiming for Mexico City’s main square, commonly called Zocalo, then you can get off at the nearest bus stop, which is Republica de Argentina.
A Metrobus ticket costs $1.70 (30 MXN). You will find the buses at Entrance 7 of Terminal 1 and Entrance 2 of Terminal 2.
If you prefer a direct and comfortable ride, booking a private transfer in advance is the best option. It saves you from long taxi queues and the occasional wait for an Uber. Prices start at $37 (640 MXN) when you book through BookAway.
Why we don't recommend taking the Metro from Mexico City Airport
Although the Metro is the cheapest option at $0.30 (5 MXN), it is not ideal if you have luggage. Large bags are not allowed, and the trains can get extremely crowded, especially during peak hours. Plus, no direct line goes to the city centre, so you may need to make multiple transfers.
