Cebu to Moalboal by Bus

4 hoursFrom 170 PHP ($2.80)

Ceres Bus is the most popular company operating the Cebu to Moalboal route. You can easily spot them by their distinct yellow colour. Ceres buses bound for Moalboal are available as early as 03:00 in the morning.

You can choose between two types of buses:

  • Direct bus from Cebu City to Moalboal - Leaves every 3 hours from 06:00 to 14:00. It goes straight to Moalboal, and the journey ends there.
  • Bus from Cebu City to Bato via Barili - Runs every 30 minutes from 03:00 to 18:30. It drops off passengers in Moalboal before going further south to the town of Bato.

A non-airconditioned bus ticket costs 170 PHP ($2.80), while an air-conditioned bus ride costs 210 PHP ($3.40). You can buy your ticket from the counter or directly from the bus conductor.

The bus journey from Cebu to Moalboal takes around 4 hours.

Departure and arrival station

Buses depart from the South Bus Terminal, right next to CityMall in Cebu City centre.

The bus stops at Moalboal Bus Station, beside the public market. From here, you can get to your hotel with a motorbike taxi for 50 PHP ($0.80) or a tricycle for 150 PHP ($2.50).

Cebu to Moalboal by Van

3 hoursFrom 180 PHP ($3.00)

If you’re on a budget but in a hurry, you can take a public van from Cebu to Moalboal. Vans don’t make as many stops as the bus so they can complete the journey in around 3 hours.

With very little legroom, the trip may not be the most comfortable. If you’re carrying bulky luggage, they may also charge you for an extra seat.

Vans generally run between 04:00 and 19:00, though the schedule can be a bit unpredictable. It’s also important to know that most vans wait until they’re full before leaving.

Fares start from 180 PHP ($3.00), but be aware that drivers sometimes try to charge foreign tourists more.

Departure and arrival station

Vans operating from Cebu to Moalboal depart from South Bus Terminal, the same terminal used by buses. Don’t confuse this for the previous van station, V-Hire South Terminal, which has now been converted into a food park.

Vans usually drop off passengers at the Moalboal V-Hire Terminal across the Municipal Hall in the town centre.

Cebu to Moalboal by Taxi

2h 30m - 3hFrom 5,300 PHP ($87)

If you're flying into Mactan-Cebu Airport and want to head straight to Moalboal, booking a private transfer is the most convenient option. It saves time, and you won’t have to deal with Cebu City traffic.

We recommend booking your ride in advance with BookAway. They offer reliable airport pick-ups with friendly drivers and excellent customer service. Rates start from 5,300 PHP ($87) for a 3-seater private transfer. Divide the cost, and that’s just about 1,770 PHP ($29) per person.

One thing to note: BookAway only picks up from Mactan-Cebu International Airport, not Cebu City centre. But that actually makes it a great option if you plan to skip the city and go straight to the coast.

From Cebu City

If you're already in Cebu City or planning to explore a bit before heading south, you can book a private transfer through Klook instead. This way, you can expect a nice car with a good driver. Rates start from 4,260 PHP ($70) for a 3-seater sedan from Cebu City to Moalboal.

You can also hail a regular taxi from the airport or within Cebu. But be prepared to haggle because taxi drivers rarely use the metre for long-distance trips. They will also try to give a higher rate when negotiating with foreigners.

For reference, a reasonable rate for a private transfer from Cebu to Moalboal is around 3,000 PHP ($50).

Can I book a Grab from Cebu to Moalboal?

Grab works well for short rides within Cebu City, including trips to and from the airport. But it’s not licensed to operate in Moalboal.

You can try booking a long-distance trip to Moalboal through the app. Sometimes, you might see a fare that looks like a bargain — around 2,500 PHP ($41). But here’s the thing: most drivers will ignore the request.

Why? Because Moalboal is outside their coverage area, and there’s little chance they’ll get a return trip. If someone does agree to take you, they’ll likely ask for double the fare to make it worth their while.

To avoid the hassle, it’s better to pre-book your ride with BookAway if you're coming from the airport or with Klook if you’re already in the city.
