There are four ways to travel the 435 km distance from Sukhothai to Bangkok. You can choose between the train, bus, flight, and private.

Sukhothai to Bangkok by Train
Taking the train is not the fastest way to travel from Sukhothai to Bangkok. Still, it is a great opportunity to relax and take in the sights.
*IMPORTANT: The last time we checked (October 2024), the buses going from Sukhothai to Phitsanulok were not available. For this reason, you will need to take a taxi instead.
Step 1: Sukhothai to Phitsanulok
Travellers coming from Sukhothai used to take the bus to the train station at Phitsanulok. Due to the pandemic, no bus operators seem to provide trips for this route. In this case, you can take a taxi.
Sukhothai to Phitsanulok by Bus
Buses operated by Sukhothai Wintour going from Sukhothai to Phitsanulok were widely available before the pandemic. Also, buses used to pick up passengers from Sukhothai Wintour’s office near the Historical Park.
As of March 2022, the buses servicing this route were not available. Check their Facebook page to get the latest information on pricing, availability, and schedules.
Whether you are in the Old or New Sukhothai, you can go to the Sukhothai Bus Terminal by tuk-tuk.
From New Sukhothai, one tuk-tuk ride costs 60 THB ($1.80). Old Sukhothai is a little bit farther from the terminal so expect to pay 150 THB ($4.60).
Once you are at the Sukhothai Bus Terminal, you will then board a bus bound for Phitsanulok. The fare is around 60 THB ($1.80).
Upon arrival at the Phitsanulok bus terminal, you can hire a tuk-tuk to take you to the train station for 60 THB ($1.80).
Sukhothai to Phitsanulok by Taxi
Riding a taxi from Sukhothai to Phitsanulok is the most convenient option. The driver can pick you up from your hotel and then drop you off at the Phitsanulok Railway Station.

Sukhothai to Phitsanulok by Tuk-tuk
Tuk-tuks are convenient for short trips around the city. For long journeys, they are not ideal as they make the ride slower and bumpier.
If you need to travel the 63 km distance between Sukhothai and Phitsanulok, taking a taxi makes more sense. Besides comfort and safety, you can be sure that your luggage won’t get wet when it rains.

Sukhothai to Bangkok by Bus
The five known bus companies from Sukhothai to Bangkok are Phitsanulok Tour, Sukhothai Wintour, Sukhothai Thani, Khao San Tara Tour and Tour with Thai.
From New Sukhothai
From the New Sukhothai city centre, take a songthaew to the bus terminal for 15 THB ($0.50). Alternatively, you can ride a tuk-tuk for 50 THB ($1.50).
From Old Sukhothai
Sukhothai Wintour used to allow passengers to catch their Bangkok-bound buses in their office near the Historical Park. Now, all buses depart from Sukhothai Bus Terminal.
If you are coming from Old Sukhothai, take a songthaew to the bus terminal. One ride costs around 20 THB ($0.60) to 30 THB ($0.90). Tuk-tuk is another alternative, which costs around 150 THB ($4.60).
Bus schedule from Sukhothai to Bangkok
Booking Tip
Both operators have buses that depart from the Sukhothai Bus Terminal and arrive at the Mochit Bus Terminal.
The Transport offers only standard buses but it also has departures from Sawankhalok Bus Terminal, which is 40 km away from the New Sukhothai.
These buses will drop you off at Bangkok Bus Terminal in Sai Tai Mai, along the Boromaratchachonnani Road.
On the other hand, Sukhothai Wintour provides VIP and standard bus trips from Sukhothai and Bangkok.
With tickets sold at Origin currency not defined, VIP buses are only available on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. The standard P1 buses are available on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, while the ticket costs 380 THB ($12).
Sukhothai to Bangkok by Flight
Bangkok Airways used to offer 3 flights every day from Sukhothai (THS) to Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok. Due to the pandemic, only 1 daily flight is available.
Flights depart at 17:50, and ticket prices start at 1,580 THB ($49).
Sukhothai Airport is located 30 km north of New Sukhothai, which means you will need to arrange a transfer from your hotel. Bangkok Airways provides a shuttle service for a fee.
Contact them directly to inquire about up-to-date information on pricing, schedule, and availability. Another option is to arrange a transfer with your hotel.
From Suvarnabhumi Airport, you can reach Bangkok in 40 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on your mode of transport.

Sukhothai to Bangkok by Private Transport
A private transfer is a convenient option when travelling in a group from Sukhothai to Bangkok.
