Yogyakarta Airport to Yogyakarta City Centre by Train
The airport railway link is a quick, comfortable and cost-effective way to travel between Yogyakarta International Airport and Yogyakarta city centre. Travel time is less than 40m. A ticket costs $1.10 (20,000 IDR) on the regular trains, which are free-seating.
If you want reserved seats, you can get them on the express trains. Fares start from $3.10 (55,000 IDR). These are slightly faster and can take you to the heart of Yogyakarta in about 35 minutes.
You can expect a train departure once or twice every hour, with an interval of 30 to 50 minutes.
Departure and arrival station
Trains depart from YIA Airport Train Station, which is conveniently connected to Yogyakarta International Airport.
The last stop is at Yogyakarta Train Station (also known as Tugu Station). From here, it's a short walk to the famous Malioboro Street.

Old route: Train via Wojo Station
Before the launch of the airport railway link, Wojo Station was the closest train hub to Yogyakarta International Airport.
Nowadays, you can still take a direct train from here to the city. But there's a catch: it's 6.5 km away from Yogyakarta Airport.
That said, we don't really recommend this route. But it's worth knowing in case you are out of options.
The cheapest way to get from Yogyakarta Airport to Wojo Station is by taking the state-owned Damri bus. These buses are parked outside the arrivals hall and are available from 04:40 to 18:15. Just ask which ones are bound for Wojo Station. A ticket costs $1.40 (25,000 IDR) for the 15-minute journey.
Alternatively, you can take a taxi with rates from $2.80 (50,000 IDR).
From Wojo Station, take a train to Tugu Station, the nearest station to Malioboro Street in central Yogyakarta.
The train journey takes around 40 minutes, and ticket fares start from $3.40 (60,000 IDR). You can find the schedule on booking.kai.id.
Yogyakarta Airport to Yogyakarta City Centre by Bus
The bus is an affordable way to get from Yogyakarta Airport to Yogyakarta City Centre, but it takes so much longer than the train.
Travel time with the bus is 1.5-2 hours, depending on traffic. A ticket costs $4.50 (80,000 IDR).
Conveniently, buses have several drop-off points in the city. This makes it a good alternative to the train if your accommodation is not close to Tugu Station.
Damri and SatelQu offer several trips from Yogyakarta Airport to Jogja city centre daily. The first trip is at 04:00, and there are bus departures almost every hour until 21:00.

Damri and SatelQu buses are parked outside the arrivals hall at the airport. You’ll be able to easily spot them by their company names boldly printed on the side of the vehicles.
There are several bus routes available from Yogyakarta Airport. If you’re not sure which bus to take, tell the driver where your hotel is located so that he can direct you to the bus that passes by the nearest bus stop.
Bus from the city centre to Yogyakarta Airport
When travelling from the city centre to the airport, Damri buses depart from Perum Damri Station along Jl. Majapahit. They also pick up passengers at bus stops across the city. Ask your hotel for the nearest bus stop to your accommodation.
Buses from the city to Yogyakarta International Airport are available from 07:00 to 21:00.
Yogyakarta Airport to Yogyakarta City Centre by Taxi
Private transfers are a good option if you're carrying bulky luggage from Yogyakarta International Airport to the city centre.
But it's worth noting that the airport is quite far from the city. Expect a travel time of at least 1.5 hours when you take a private transfer, longer during peak hours.

Grab or Gojek from Yogyakarta Airport
Grab and Gojek have several stands at the arrival hall of Yogyakarta Airport. The staff can assist you with booking a taxi, or you can just check the rates yourself on the app.

If you don’t have time to book your ride in advance or don’t have a data connection to use Grab or Gojek, the official airport taxi is your best option. Simply head to the official taxi stand and arrange your ride there.
Airport taxi fares are regulated, so you won’t need to worry about negotiating or being overcharged.
That said, airport taxis are usually more expensive than other private transport options. A ride from Yogyakarta International Airport to Malioboro Street costs around $17 (300,000 IDR) to $23 (400,000 IDR).
