Hoi An to Nha Trang by Train
Hoi An does not have its own railway station. When travelling by train from Hoi An to Nha Trang, you will first take a bus or taxi to Da Nang Railway Station.
Despite this extra transfer, the train is a good option if you choose to travel overnight.
Step 1: Hoi An to Da Nang Railway Station by Minivan
From Hoi An, you can take a 1 hour minivan to Da Nang Railway Station for around $5.90 (155,000 VND).
Minivans are available from 06:00 to 20:00 daily. This means that even if you take the last minivan trip, you will arrive 2 hours early when taking the night train to Nha Trang. You can use this time to have dinner or light snacks at one of the cafes near the train station.
Alternatively, you can take a taxi with rates from $17 (440,000 VND). Minivans and private transfers are available for online booking on BookAway.

IMPORTANT: Public Bus #1 used to be a cheap way to get from Hoi An Da Nang. But the last time we checked (November 2024), these were no longer in operation.
Step 2: Da Nang to Nha Trang by Train
From Da Nang, there are 5 trains going to Nha Trang every day. Only one of these is a night train, though. We highly recommend that you take an overnight train so that you don’t lose an entire day on the journey.
You can get a second-class seat for around $19 (497,000 VND). But for this long journey, we recommend booking a 4-sleeper cabin for more comfort.
A cheaper alternative would be to get a bunk in a 6-berth cabin, but it is less spacious and may not be as comfortable.

Option 1: Direct Bus from Hoi An to Nha Trang
On a budget? Travelling by bus from Hoi An to Nha Trang costs $16 (416,000 VND). All buses operate overnight, which means you can save on hotel costs.
Travelling at night doesn’t mean that you will get a good night’s sleep, though. Most of the bus operators for this route don’t get the best reviews.

Option 2: Indirect Bus via Da Nang

Buses arrive at various points in Nha Trang city centre, depending on which company you travel with. To get to your hotel, you can either take a short walk or grab a taxi with fares from $5.70 (150,000 VND).
Step 1: Hoi An to Da Nang by Taxi
The most convenient way to get from Hoi An to Da Nang Bus Station is by taxi. Rates start from $17 (440,000 VND). You can pre-book your private transfer through BookAway — their cars are generally more comfortable than regular taxis.
Another option is to take a motorbike taxi for around $5.70 (150,000 VND), but only if you’re travelling light.
IMPORTANT: The cheap local buses that used to operate on this route were no longer available the last time we checked (November 2024). Some touts are taking advantage of this situation by luring tourists to take overpriced taxis, which is why it’s best to book your private transfer with a trusted company beforehand.
Step 2: Da Nang to Nha Trang by Bus
From Da Nang Central Bus Station, there are a few buses departing in the afternoon/evening for Nha Trang.
We recommend travelling with Futa Bus because it has the most convenient departure and arrival times. It offers the cheapest fares at $15 (400,000 VND) and also gets decent reviews for this route.
It’s worth noting that bus travel in Vietnam is neither as safe nor as comfortable as taking the train. And this is a long journey that takes 10h - 15h 30m.

Booking Tip
Most buses arrive at either the Northern Bus Station (6 km from the city centre) or the Southern Bus Station (13 km from central Nha Trang). Some companies have their own arrival points in the city, though. Make sure you check your bus departure and arrival stations to avoid any inconvenience.
Hoi An to Nha Trang by Flight
The train and the bus are good options if you don’t mind travelling overnight. But if you’d rather travel during the day or if you’re short on time, there is also an option to take a flight from Hoi An to Nha Trang.
There are not a lot of flights available, though, just 1 or 2 flights operate daily.
Also, note that the nearest airport to Hoi An is in Da Nang, and the nearest airport to Nha Trang is in Cam Ranh. Both airports are 1 hour away.

Step 1: Hoi An to Da Nang Airport by Bus
From Hoi An centre to Da Nang Airport takes 1 hour by shuttle bus or taxi.
We recommend taking a shuttle bus if you’re travelling solo. This will pick you up from Hoi An centre and take you to Da Nang Airport for $5.90 (155,000 VND).
If you’re with at least one companion, it will be more cost-efficient to take a taxi. Fares going to Da Nang Airport start from $12 (320,000 VND).

Step 2: Da Nang to Nha Trang by Flight
From Da Nang, you will then fly to the nearest airport to Nha Trang, which is Cam Ranh Airport.
Vietjet Air offers the cheapest fares, but it’s only available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Vietnam Airlines operates on this route every day, but it’s a bit more expensive.
Airfares start from $32 (830,000 VND) and travel time is around 1.5 hours.
Step 3: Nha Trang Airport to Nha Trang City Centre by Bus/Taxi
From Cam Ranh Airport, you will find Nha Trang 40 km north. You can get there in 2 ways: a 1 hour bus and a 45-minute taxi.
The bus is the cheaper option at $2.80 (74,000 VND). Dat Moi Bus #18 will take you from the airport to 10 Yersin Street in Nha Trang city centre.
Note that the bus does not have a lot of space for luggage. If you’re carrying bulky bags, it might be more convenient to take a taxi. Rates start from $8.60 (226,000 VND).

Hoi An to Nha Trang by Private Transfer
The only way you can travel directly from Hoi An to Nha Trang is by private transfer. The journey takes about 9h 10m hours, making it faster than taking a bus or a train.
