Rome to Amalfi by Bus
Marozzi runs this route as a seasonal service from June to September. Outside the summer season there are no direct buses, so please check the link provided for current schedules.
The bus is the cheapest way to travel from Rome to Amalfi. It’s also convenient because it’s a direct transfer. The downside is that Marozzi is the only bus company on this route and offers only one bus trip daily.
We think that this option is still good value for money, considering a ticket costs only $27 (€24) for a bus ride that takes around 5h. That’s just half the cost of taking the train.
Departure and arrival station
The bus departs from Roma Tiburtina in the city centre. This bus station is just beside the train station with the same name.
You will be dropped off at Piazza Flavio Gioia in Amalfi, which is just within walking distance of many hotels and restaurants in the city centre.

Rome to Amalfi by Train
There are no direct trains from Rome to Amalfi. Trains can take you only up to Salerno, located 25 km from Amalfi. You can choose to take a taxi or ferry from Salerno to Amalfi.
The combined train and taxi/ferry is a very scenic way to travel this route. Total cost will depend on the type of train you will take.

There are 3 drop-off stations in Salerno city centre that are about 20 minutes away from each other. We recommend taking the train to Salerno Train Station. There are more ferries departing from the port across this station, and you can find more taxis here.

Ferry from Salerno to Amalfi
The ferry is the cheaper option with prices starting from $12 (€10). Travel time is around 25m - 1h, and you can choose from Grassi Junior, Positano Jet, NLG, and Travelmar.
For this route, we recommend taking Travelmar, because it has more ferry daily trips compared to the other companies. The other two ferry companies only offer only 1 trip each. More importantly, the port where Travelmar departs from is just across the train station, so you won’t need any additional ride.

Travelmar ferries are available at Traghetti Salerno, just a 5-minute walk from Salerno Train Station. The ferry arrives at Amalfi Pier in the city centre.
Taxi from Salerno to Amalfi
If you prefer a private transfer, you can take a taxi from Salerno to Amalfi. Fares start from $68 (€60) for the 1-hour journey. While it seems a bit pricey, sharing the costs with another person makes the taxi ride worth it for its convenience.
An advantage of taking the taxi is there is no time limit for your arrival in Salerno. You can easily catch a taxi any time of the day, so you can also take whichever train you want from Rome to Salerno.
