Salerno to Capri by Direct Ferry

When travelling from Salerno to Capri, there is no better option than to take a direct ferry. It is the cheapest and most convenient way to complete this journey.

Alicost and NLG (Navigazione Libera del Golfo) are the main ferry operators on this route. Ferry tickets start from $33 (€29) for a ride that takes around 1h 30m - 2h.

The ferry service from Salerno to Capri is available only from June to October. Their schedules are usually posted just a few days to a week before the trips start running.

Departure and arrival station

Ferries depart from Salerno Harbor Station, located 1.5 km southwest of Salerno Cathedral in the city centre.

You will be dropped off at Marina Grande on the north coast. The port is within the city centre and is near accommodations and establishments in the area.

Salerno to Capri by Ferry via Amalfi

One option is to travel via Amalfi, a town located 25 km from Salerno. A ferry ride from Amalfi takes only around an hour.

Step 1: Salerno to Amalfi by Taxi

From Salerno city centre, hop on a taxi going to Amalfi. This ride takes 1 hour, and fares start from $68 (€60).

There are two piers in Amalfi: Amalfi Pier and Amalfi Harbor Marina Coppola. Make sure to double-check which port your ferry is departing from as the two are easily confused. Either way, it’s just a 5-minute walk between these two ports.

Step 2: Amalfi to Capri by Ferry

There are three ferry operators on this route. Alicost and Positano Jet both depart from Amalfi Pier, while NLG ferries depart from Amalfi Harbor Marina Coppola.

Travel time from Amalfi to Capri is around 50m - 1h 10m, depending on the ferry. Tickets start from $30 (€26).

As with Salerno, ferry services in Amalfi are available only from June to October. With this option though, you have more options with the ferry departures than when travelling from Salerno.

Salerno to Capri by Ferry via Sorrento

Another option when travelling from Salerno to Capri is via Sorrento, located 55 km away from Salerno. With this route, land travel takes longer and is more expensive.

What we like about this route is that it’s available all year round, so it’s your only option if you’re visiting Capri in winter. The ferry ride from Sorrento to Capri also takes only 20 minutes, making it a good alternative if you easily get seasick.

Step 1: Salerno to Sorrento by Taxi

First, you need to take a taxi from Salerno to Sorrento Pier. The taxi ride takes 1h 10m, and you can expect to pay around $105 (€90).

The pier is located north of Piazza Tasso in Sorrento’s town centre.

Step 2: Sorrento to Capri by Ferry

Sorrento Pier is the closest port to Capri, so the ferry ride takes only 15-25m. You can get a ticket for $25 (€22).

Ferries from Sorrento to Capri operate all year round, but there are more ferry departures in the summer. The first trip is at 08:20, and there are ferry trips almost every hour until 17:05.

If you’re travelling during the winter months (November to March), you can even take the Caremar car ferry on this route! With this option, you can bring vehicles, particularly scooters, to Capri.
